ABUJA, Nigeria – The man accused of posing as the Director-General of a non-existent Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) has been arrested after a Federal High Court in Abuja issued a warrant for his arrest.

The suspect, Adeniyi Adeyemi, allegedly presented himself as the Director-General of the purported federal agency, despite repeated declarations by the Presidency that no such government institution exists.

His arrest follows an order by Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court, Abuja, who issued a bench warrant after Adeyemi reportedly failed to appear before the court to answer criminal charges filed against him.

Why Was Adeniyi Adeyemi Arrested?

According to court documents, Adeyemi is facing an eight-count charge bordering on forgery, fraud, impersonation, and the alleged use of fake government documents.

Prosecutors allege that he falsely claimed to head the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), an organisation that the Federal Government has publicly disowned.

Authorities also accuse him of using forged appointment letters and official-looking documents to create the impression that the council was a legitimate agency operating under the Presidency.

Presidency Had Earlier Declared PFIPC Illegal

The Presidency had earlier warned Nigerians, foreign investors, diplomatic missions, banks and government agencies that the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) is not a recognised government institution.

Officials described the organisation as unauthorised and advised the public to disregard any appointments, letters, or activities carried out in its name.

The development sparked widespread controversy after reports emerged that the group had allegedly approached individuals and organisations while presenting itself as a federal government agency.

Tinubu Ordered Investigation

Following the controversy, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directed the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate the activities of the alleged fake agency.

The investigation is expected to determine whether forged government documents were used and whether other individuals may have been involved in the operation.

Court Orders Immediate Arrest

During Tuesday’s proceedings, the prosecution informed the court that Adeyemi failed to appear for his scheduled arraignment.

Justice Mohammed Umar subsequently granted the prosecution’s application and ordered his arrest.

Security operatives later apprehended the suspect, who is expected to be brought before the Federal High Court to take his plea.
