NDC Crisis Deepens as Johnpaul Anih Threatens Legal Action Against Party Officials
The leadership crisis within the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) took a fresh twist as Dr. Johnpaul Anih threatened legal action against party officials over allegations of fraud, impersonation, and illegal activities in Enugu State.
Speaking during a press conference in Enugu, Anih dismissed a disclaimer issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, which accused him of falsely parading himself as the Enugu State Chairman of the party.
The national leadership of the party had warned members of the public against dealing with Anih, alleging that he conducted a “kangaroo congress,” forged party documents, and sold fake expression of interest forms to unsuspecting aspirants.
Reacting to the allegations, Anih described the claims as false, malicious, and politically motivated, insisting that he emerged through a legitimate congress process supervised by officials assigned by the party leadership.
He challenged the party’s National Publicity Secretary to publicly present evidence proving that he sold nomination forms or defrauded any aspirant.
“I challenge the National Publicity Secretary to provide evidence of any individual to whom I sold expression of interest or nomination forms, as he falsely claimed in his publication, or be ready to face the legal consequences,” Anih declared.
The embattled chairman maintained that the congress which produced him as chairman was conducted openly at Aborigen Hall in Enugu in the presence of security agencies, media representatives, and electoral officials.
Anih further accused unnamed party officials of attempting to hijack the structure of the party in Enugu State through propaganda, intimidation, and unconstitutional means.
He also alleged that some aspirants in the state were being compelled to pay ₦400,000 into a personal account linked to a “purported protem chairman,” calling on the national leadership to investigate the matter.
Despite the disclaimer issued against him, Anih insisted he remains the authentic chairman of the party in Enugu State and vowed not to surrender what he described as the mandate freely given to him by party members.
The dispute has continued to deepen divisions within the Enugu chapter of the party, with both factions now laying claim to the legitimate leadership structure ahead of future political activities in the state.
