BREAKING: NDC Zones 2027 Presidential Ticket to South, Reserves 2031 for North
The Nigeria Democratic Congress has officially zoned its presidential ticket for the 2027 general election to Southern Nigeria, while reserving the party’s 2031 presidential slot for the North.
The decision was reached on Saturday during the party’s national convention following the adoption of a resolution moved by Afam Victor and seconded by Seyi Sowumi.
Party leaders said the zoning arrangement was designed to promote fairness, inclusiveness, and national balance ahead of the next electoral cycle. Delegates at the convention reportedly backed the motion overwhelmingly, signaling the party’s commitment to rotational leadership between the North and South.
The development comes as political parties across Nigeria continue strategic consultations ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with zoning and power rotation expected to remain key national issues.
Although the NDC is still positioning itself within Nigeria’s political landscape, the announcement is already generating reactions among party supporters and political observers, especially as discussions intensify over which region should produce the country’s next president after President Bola Tinubu’s tenure.
Political analysts believe the move could influence internal alignments within the party and shape conversations around coalition-building ahead of the 2027 polls.
