WE WON’T ABANDON YOU, VP SHETTIMA TELLS FAMILIES OF FALLEN HERO
Vice President Kashim Shettima has assured families of military and police officers slained in a recent attack in Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State of the Federal Government’s continued support.
Speaking on behalf of President Bola Tinubu, Shettima reiterated the administration’s commitment to ensuring that the sacrifices and gallantry of security personnel are not in vain.
The Vice President gave the assurance on Tuesday in Birnin Kebbi during a condolence visit to Governor Nasir Idris over the killing of security officers and the death of the Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammad Usman Zuru, who passed away in Cairo, Egypt, on April 7.
Shettima said the Federal Government shares in the grief of the state and its people, describing the recent incidents as deeply tragic.
“We are here at the behest of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to commiserate with you and to register our profound condolences over the sad developments in your state,” he said.
He added that the President has directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide relief materials to the families of the slain officers and affected communities.
According to him, the welfare of members of the armed forces and their families remains a top priority for the current administration.
“The President instructed me to come with the Director General of NEMA to ensure that adequate measures are put in place to support displaced communities and the families of our fallen heroes,” Shettima stated.
He also offered prayers for the deceased, asking for eternal rest for their souls and strength for their families and the people of Kebbi State to bear the losses.
The Vice President further commended Governor Idris for his performance in office, particularly in the areas of infrastructure and education, noting that his leadership has fostered inclusivity and development across the state.
In his response, Governor Idris said security agencies in Kebbi are working closely with the state government to address security challenges, adding that there has been improvement in response strategies.
He thanked the Federal Government for sending a high-powered delegation led by the Vice President to condole with the state and families of the victims.
The governor disclosed that the state government has donated N60 million to support the families of the eleven slain officers, while also confirming that displaced communities affected by the attack have been resettled.
He assured that additional security measures are being implemented to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
Also speaking, the Emir of Zuru, Alhaji Sanusi Mikailu Sami, expressed appreciation for the visit and prayed for peace and stability in Kebbi State and the country at large.
The Vice President was accompanied by several top officials, including the Director General of NEMA, Zubaida Umar, and other senior government aides.
The visit underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting victims of insecurity and strengthening national unity in the face of ongoing security challenges.
