Six Killed, Several Injured As Protest Turns Violent in Suleja

#EndBadGovernance protest in Suleja, Niger State, turned violent today, resulting in the deaths of at least six people and leaving several others injured.

According to eyewitnesses, the victims were killed while security operatives were trying to dislodge a group of protesters who had mounted a barricade on a section of the Abuja-Kaduna highway.

The protest, which began around 11 am, escalated when anti-riot police attempted to disperse the protesters, leading to a clash between the two groups.

“It was a chaotic scene,” said one eyewitness. “The police used teargas, and the protesters retaliated by throwing stones, sticks, and other objects.”

The police and other security agencies responded to the scene, arresting 11 people and dispersing the hoodlums who had blocked the Kaduna-Abuja expressway and old toll-gate.

The expressway has since been reopened for motorists, and traffic is flowing freely. However, the situation in Suleja remains tense, with residents advised to exercise caution.
