Real Madrid Extend La Liga Lead with 3-1 Win Over Villarreal After Vinícius Double and Mbappé Strike

MADRID, Oct 5 (BONA Nigeria) – Real Madrid moved to the top of La Liga after a 3-1 victory over 10-man Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabéu on Saturday, with Vinícius Júnior scoring twice and Kylian Mbappé extending his scoring streak to nine consecutive games.

Villarreal’s hopes were dealt an early blow when defender Jorge Cuenca was sent off midway through the first half for a last-man foul on Mbappé. Vinícius converted the resulting penalty to give Madrid the lead before adding a second from close range shortly after the break.

Mbappé made it 3-0 with a composed finish in the 67th minute, moments before being substituted after picking up a minor ankle knock. Georges Mikautadze netted a late consolation for Villarreal, but the damage was already done.

The win lifts Real Madrid to 20 points from eight matches, two clear of rivals Barcelona heading into the international break. Villarreal remain mid-table with eight points.

Madrid next face Girona after the break, while Villarreal will look to bounce back against Real Sociedad.
