One Dead, Three Rescued as Three-Storey Building Collapses in Kano

A three-storey building under construction has collapsed in Kano State, killing one person and leaving three others rescued from the rubble.

The tragic incident occurred on Friday along Sultan Road, near Sazo Restaurant, in Nasarawa Local Government Area of the state.

Confirming the development, the spokesperson of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, said the agency received a distress call at about 10:14 a.m. from a resident identified as Musa Yau, who reported the building collapse.

According to Abdullahi, firefighters were immediately mobilised to the scene and arrived approximately 10 minutes after receiving the emergency call.

He said emergency responders successfully rescued three victims from the debris and evacuated them to a nearby hospital for medical attention. However, one person was confirmed dead after being taken to the hospital.

“The victims were rescued from the collapsed building and taken to the nearest hospital, where one person was confirmed dead,” Abdullahi said.

The Fire Service spokesman added that rescue operations were still ongoing as emergency personnel continued searching through the rubble to ensure no other victims remained trapped beneath the collapsed structure.

Preliminary findings indicate that the collapse may have been caused by the use of substandard building materials during construction.

Abdullahi called on engineers, contractors, developers and other stakeholders in the construction industry to strictly comply with approved building regulations and use quality construction materials to avert future tragedies.

The latest incident adds to the growing concerns over recurring building collapses in Nigeria, where experts have repeatedly blamed poor construction practices, substandard materials, and inadequate regulatory enforcement for similar disasters.
