NECO Releases 2026 BECE Results, Announces July Re-sit Examination for Mathematics and English

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially released the results of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), with a total of 186,291 candidates participating in the examination conducted across Nigeria and selected foreign countries.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by NECO’s Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani, candidates sat for examinations in 12 subjects. The candidates were drawn from the 36 states of the federation, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and five foreign countries.

The examination commenced on April 20, 2026, and was successfully concluded on April 30, 2026.

NECO disclosed that the results were approved and released following the successful conclusion of the 2026 BECE Award Committee Meeting held at the Council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.

Speaking during the meeting, the Chairperson of the Award Committee, Dr. (Mrs.) Folake Olatunji David, Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education and representative of the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, expressed satisfaction with the processes that led to the successful release of the examination results.

The meeting was attended by secondary school principals from various parts of the country alongside members of NECO’s management team.

Meanwhile, the Award Committee approved the conduct of the 2026 BECE Re-sit Examination for candidates with deficiencies in Mathematics and English Studies.

According to NECO, the re-sit examination will take place on July 22 and 23, 2026.

The examination is specifically designed for candidates who recorded conditional deficiencies in Mathematics, English Studies, or both subjects. NECO explained that the exercise provides affected candidates with an opportunity to remedy the deficiencies and obtain the certification required for admission and placement into Senior Secondary School One (SSS1) without repeating an entire academic year.

The Council reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring quality assessment and providing opportunities for candidates to advance in their educational pursuits.
