BREAKING: American Cardinal Robert Prevost Elected as New Pope


The Catholic Church has chosen a new spiritual leader. Cardinal Robert Prevost, originally from the United States and a prominent Vatican official, has been elected as the new Pope. He will be known as Pope Leo XIV.
The official announcement came from the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica on Wednesday, following the traditional white smoke that signals the successful election of a new pontiff.
At 69 years old, Prevost becomes the first Pope born in the United States in the Church’s over 2,000-year history a historic milestone for Catholics globally, especially in the U.S.
He takes over from Pope Francis, who passed away on Easter Monday, April 21, 2025, at the age of 88.
