NYSC Allegedly Withholds Certificate of Viral ‘Corper Raye’ Over Clearance Dispute
Rita Uguamaye, widely known as “Corper Raye,” has revealed that she was denied her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate despite completing the mandatory one-year service program.
In an Instagram post on August 9, 2025, Uguamaye alleged that NYSC officials refused to issue her the certificate, citing failure to complete her April clearance on the scheduled date. She disputed the claim, insisting she had been present but was repeatedly turned away by a Local Government Inspector (LGI) who later confiscated her file and refused to process her clearance.
Uguamaye, who served in Lagos State, gained nationwide attention earlier this year after a viral TikTok video in which she lambasted President Bola Tinubu’s administration over worsening economic conditions, high inflation, and widespread hardship. In the controversial clip, she called the President a “terrible leader” and described Lagos as having poor living conditions.
Following the video’s circulation, she alleged that NYSC officials threatened her and demanded she take down the post — an incident that drew public support from figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and activist Omoyele Sowore, who condemned the alleged intimidation.
Her activism was credited by some with influencing the recent increase in corps members’ monthly allowance from ₦33,000 to ₦77,000.
Describing her NYSC experience in Lagos as a waste of time, Uguamaye said she was ready to move on from this chapter of her life.
