Tight Security In Abuja As Nnamdi Kanu’s Trial Begins Today
The Federal High Court premises in Abuja have been taken over by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) in anticipation of the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), which is set to begin today.
Security measures are stringent, with all routes leading to the court cordoned off.
Only individuals whose names were on a list held by DSS operatives were allowed access to the court premises.
Kanu has been in DSS detention since June 2021, following his repatriation from Kenya to Nigeria.

Although the appellate court ruled the abduction of Kanu from Kenya illegal and quashed the terrorism charges against him, the Federal Government appealed the judgment to the Supreme Court.
On December 15, 2023, the Supreme Court ruled that Kanu’s trial on terrorism charges should continue, setting the stage for the proceedings scheduled to take place today.
