‘I’m Bigger Than Your Papa’ — Wizkid Fires Back at Seun Kuti
Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Wizkid has broken his silence amid an escalating online clash involving his fanbase and Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti, son of the late music legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti.
The controversy began last week after Seun Kuti, 43, accused Wizkid’s fans—popularly known as Wizkid FC of disrespecting his father’s legacy by comparing Fela’s influence with that of the global Afrobeats star.
On Tuesday evening, Wizkid, 35, reacted in a series of Instagram Story posts, venting his anger at Seun and addressing the ongoing social media dispute.
The Made in Lagos singer first shared a viral video of a woman speaking in Yoruba, in which she harshly criticised Seun Kuti’s recent online conduct. In the video, the woman questioned why members of Seun’s family had not intervened, accusing him of engaging in prolonged online rants and of insulting people and their families.
She further argued that Wizkid’s international success has helped introduce Fela’s music to younger generations, keeping the late icon’s legacy relevant.
“If not for Wizkid, do you think young people would still care about your father?” she asked in the video, adding that Wizkid even bears a tattoo in honour of Fela.
Following the video repost, Wizkid directly attacked Seun Kuti in a series of strongly worded posts, hurling insults and making controversial claims about his own stature in comparison to the Afrobeat pioneer.
In one post, Wizkid wrote that he was “bigger” than Fela and mocked Seun over his age, remarks that have since sparked widespread reactions across social media platforms.
The comments have divided fans and music observers, with many condemning Wizkid’s remarks as disrespectful to Fela’s legacy, while others accused Seun Kuti of provoking the situation through his initial statements.
As of the time of reporting, Seun Kuti has not issued an official response to Wizkid’s latest posts, but the exchange has reignited debates over legacy, influence, and respect within Nigeria’s music industry.
