Nigerian content creator and social media influencer Amarachi Amusi, popularly known as Ashmusy, has withdrawn from a proposed celebrity boxing match after a public disagreement with reality TV star and former Big Brother Naija winner Phyna.

Ashmusy on Thursday denied allegations that she attempted to have Phyna removed from the proposed boxing event, insisting that she only told the organisers she was uncomfortable fighting someone she had a cordial relationship with.

The development followed an explosive social media outburst by Phyna, who accused Ashmusy of trying to replace her in the boxing deal despite being introduced to the organisers by Phyna herself.

Phyna Accuses Ashmusy of Betrayal

According to reports, organisers of the proposed celebrity boxing event initially approached Phyna in February 2026 about participating in a fight, including a proposed bout against a Ghanaian opponent.

Phyna said the original arrangement later changed after the proposed opponent became unavailable because of a wedding scheduled for the same date.

She said she subsequently became involved in helping the organisers identify potential participants and, on August 19, 2026, suggested Ashmusy for the event.

Phyna said she contacted Ashmusy, discussed the opportunity with her and eventually connected her with the organisers.

According to Phyna, Ashmusy initially agreed to participate, but difficulties allegedly emerged during subsequent negotiations over the proposed payment and contract.

Phyna further alleged that Ashmusy later told the organisers to remove her from the event and replace her with another opponent.

The reality star expressed anger over the development, accusing Ashmusy of attempting to take away an opportunity she had helped facilitate.

Ashmusy Denies Trying to Remove Phyna

Responding to the allegations, Ashmusy denied asking the organisers to drop Phyna.

In a message directed at the reality star, she said:

“Phyna I never asked anyone to drop you, neither did I advocate for your downfall in any way.”

Ashmusy explained that she had been uncertain about participating in the fight from the moment Phyna approached her.

According to her, she had been contemplating the offer and had not immediately made a final decision.

She said her position was simply that she did not feel comfortable fighting Phyna because they were on good terms.

Ashmusy said she therefore asked the organisers whether she could fight someone else if she eventually decided to participate, rather than face Phyna in the ring.

‘I Wasn’t Comfortable Fighting With You’

Ashmusy’s response sought to distinguish between requesting Phyna’s removal and expressing a personal preference over her opponent.

She said she did not ask the organisers to remove Phyna from the entire event or seek to undermine her opportunity.

Rather, she said she was uncomfortable with the prospect of fighting someone with whom she had a relationship outside the proposed boxing match.

Ashmusy reportedly told the organisers that she would rather fight another person if she participated and was given the opportunity to identify a different opponent.

The clarification came after Phyna’s public accusations triggered reactions across social media.

Ashmusy Withdraws From the Fight

Amid the controversy, Ashmusy has now indicated that she does not want to remain involved in the proposed boxing arrangement.

Her withdrawal effectively ends the immediate possibility of a Phyna-Ashmusy celebrity boxing bout.

The dispute has nevertheless generated significant attention online, with social media users debating whether Ashmusy’s decision amounted to an attempt to remove Phyna from the event or was simply a refusal to fight someone she considered a friend.

Neither side’s account of the negotiations has been independently verified, and details of the organisers’ final plans for the boxing event remain unclear.

What Started the Dispute?

The disagreement can be traced to Phyna’s account of how Ashmusy became involved in the proposed event.

Phyna said she had spent months communicating with the organisers before introducing Ashmusy to them.

She therefore viewed Ashmusy’s alleged request to replace her as a betrayal, particularly because she believed she had personally helped create the opportunity.

Ashmusy, however, maintains that she did not campaign for Phyna’s removal and that her only concern was finding an opponent she was comfortable facing.

The two conflicting accounts have turned what was expected to be a celebrity boxing spectacle into a social media controversy.

Celebrity Boxing Gains Popularity in Nigeria

Celebrity boxing has become increasingly popular in Nigeria, combining entertainment, social media personalities and competitive sport to attract large audiences.

Earlier this year, the Chaos in the Ring 4 event featured a highly publicised celebrity bout between skit maker Carter Efe and singer Portable, demonstrating the growing commercial appeal of celebrity boxing in the country.

The proposed Phyna-Ashmusy fight would have added another high-profile clash involving two personalities with substantial online followings.

For now, however, Ashmusy’s withdrawal means the anticipated matchup will not go ahead in its reported form.

The controversy also highlights the challenges organisers can face when celebrity boxing events combine commercial negotiations, personal relationships and competitive rivalries.

As the dispute continues to generate reactions online, the key unresolved question is whether the organisers will announce a new opponent for Phyna or restructure the proposed event entirely.
