In a bid to actualize the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on health for all citizens, the federal government has commissioned a Sustainable Development Multipurpose Hospital in Ugwunagbo, Abia State.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, who commissioned the hospital, reiterated the federal government’s commitment to ensuring access to quality healthcare for all citizens without financial hardship.
Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his unwavering commitment to the successful completion of the project. The governor disclosed that the state has allocated 15% of its budget to healthcare services and delivery, aligning with the federal government’s efforts to achieve SDG 3, which aims to reduce maternal mortality to 70 per 100,000 persons by 2030.

Governor Otti promised that his administration would leave a lasting legacy in the health sector, establishing a comprehensive medical village and attracting 10% of funds spent on medical tourism abroad to the state. The management of the hospital will be transitioned to the state government, with additional land allocated for the construction of doctors’ and staff quarters.
