Former Anambra State Governor, Chris Ngige, has been remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending the hearing of his bail application on December 15. He was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday, December 12, over alleged corruption charges totaling ₦2.2 billion.

Ngige, who served as Minister of Labour and Employment from 2015 to 2023, pleaded not guilty to eight counts bordering on abuse of office and acceptance of gifts from contractors of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF).

The EFCC alleges that Ngige used his position to confer unfair advantages on companies linked to his associates, including Cezimo Nigeria Limited, Zitacom Nigeria Limited, and Olde English Consolidated Limited, by awarding contracts worth hundreds of millions of naira.
