Nollywood actress Doris Ogala has secured the governorship ticket of the African Action Congress (AAC) ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Abia State.

Ogala emerged as the party’s candidate following the conclusion of the AAC primary election, positioning her as the party’s flagbearer in the race to govern the southeastern state.

Videos that surfaced online shortly after the exercise showed the actress celebrating her victory alongside party members and supporters, marking a significant milestone in her transition from entertainment to active politics.

Her emergence comes after months of political maneuvering and internal disagreements within the party over her governorship ambition. Despite resistance from some stakeholders, Ogala succeeded in clinching the nomination, securing the opportunity to represent the AAC in the highly anticipated election.

With the party’s ticket now in her possession, Ogala is expected to challenge the incumbent governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, who is widely expected to seek re-election under the platform of the Labour Party.

Political analysts believe the 2027 Abia governorship contest could attract considerable attention, given the growing interest of celebrities and public figures in elective politics across Nigeria.

At the national level, the AAC has also retained its familiar presidential standard-bearer in Omoyele Sowore, who is expected to represent the party in the 2027 presidential election alongside other major contenders, including incumbent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
