BREAKING: Nigeria’s National Grid Collapses Again Days Apart, Triggers Nationwide Blackout
Nigeria’s national power grid has collapsed again, marking the second system failure in 2026 and throwing large parts of the country into another widespread blackout.
The Nigeria National Grid confirmed the incident on Tuesday via a brief post on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, stating simply: “GRID COLLAPSE.”
Further confirmation came from the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO), which reported that electricity load allocation to all 11 distribution companies (DisCos) dropped to zero megawatts at exactly 10:54 a.m. on January 27, 2026.
All DisCos Affected
Data shared by the Nigeria National Grid (@NationalGridNg) showed that the following DisCos were completely without power at the time of the collapse:
- Abuja
- Benin
- Eko
- Enugu
- Ibadan
- Ikeja
- Jos
- Kaduna
- Kano
- Port Harcourt
- Yola
The development confirms a total system failure, cutting off electricity supply nationwide.
Restoration Efforts Underway
Power authorities have assured Nigerians that grid restoration efforts are ongoing, although no specific timeline has yet been announced for full recovery.
The latest collapse comes just days after a similar incident, once again raising concerns over the stability and reliability of Nigeria’s power infrastructure, as households and businesses brace for yet another round of outages.
