Makinde Takes Reset Nigeria Agenda to Enugu, Pledges Skills Training for One Million Youths
Oyo State Governor and Allied Peoples Movement (APM) presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde, has taken his Reset Nigeria agenda to Enugu State, outlining plans to address unemployment, insecurity, economic challenges and weaknesses in the education system ahead of the 2027 general election.
Makinde spoke on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at the APM South-East town hall meeting held at KOBB Civic Centre in Enugu, where he presented the party’s policy priorities and called for greater public participation in shaping Nigeria’s future.
The governor said the party’s agenda was built around four pillars: economic recovery, security restructuring, education reform and a reset of the socio-political space.
According to him, the campaign’s consultations across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones were designed to identify citizens’ concerns and incorporate their expectations into the party’s proposed policies.
“We do not simply manufacture policies out of thin air. We listen to our people, hear what they want to see, and incorporate their expectations into our agenda,” Makinde said.
Makinde Targets One Million Youths for Skills Training
A major component of the proposed agenda is a skills development initiative through which the APM candidate said one million Nigerian youths would receive training to improve their employment prospects.
Makinde disclosed that his campaign had partnered with Skill Reset Nigeria to provide training opportunities in areas intended to equip young people with practical, employable skills.
The initiative is expected to cover digital skills, artificial intelligence and vocational training, among other areas.
The proposal comes amid persistent concerns over youth unemployment, limited economic opportunities and the need to equip Nigerians with skills relevant to a changing labour market.
Makinde said expanding opportunities for young people would be central to addressing poverty and improving living standards.
He also urged Nigerians to reject ethnic and religious divisions, arguing that the country’s economic and security challenges affect citizens regardless of their backgrounds.
APM Promises Support for Manufacturing and Businesses
The Oyo governor also identified high borrowing costs and inadequate access to long-term financing as major obstacles facing manufacturers and entrepreneurs.
He said an APM-led federal government would seek to create a more supportive business environment, encourage entrepreneurship and promote sustainable job creation.
Makinde argued that Nigeria needed to strengthen productive economic activities rather than depend excessively on the distribution of government revenue.
He also stressed the importance of rebuilding public confidence in government, saying honesty, accountability and sincerity were necessary to bridge the trust deficit between political leaders and citizens.
The candidate maintained that his experience in Oyo State had informed his approach to governance and the proposals being presented to Nigerians.
Manifesto to Be Unveiled November 4
The APM candidate said the party was finalising its manifesto following consultations with stakeholders and citizens across the country.
The document is scheduled for unveiling on November 4, 2026, and is expected to outline the party’s proposed responses to Nigeria’s economic, security, educational and governance challenges.
Makinde also urged supporters to retain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and participate in the 2027 elections. He alleged that political opponents were attempting to undermine his campaign by destroying campaign materials, claims that were not independently established in the reports reviewed.
His visit to Enugu comes as the APM seeks to present its proposals to voters in the South-East, a region where Peter Obi, now the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has a significant political following. Makinde said his campaign was determined to give voters an opportunity to hear the party’s proposals.
The town hall also featured traditional prayers, kolanut breaking and cultural performances, reflecting the customs of the host region.
The Enugu engagement forms part of the APM’s nationwide consultations ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with the party positioning its Reset Nigeria agenda around economic opportunities, security, education and governance reforms.
