Peter Obi Vows to Fight for ADC Presidential Ticket Ahead of 2027
Former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, has declared his determination to contest for the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during an interactive session with the Obidient Movement on March 18 in Enugu, Obi stated that while he is not certain of clinching the party’s presidential ticket, he remains fully committed to the struggle.
The former governor dismissed speculations suggesting that he is facing threats that could hinder his nationwide political engagements, insisting that he remains focused and undeterred. Obi also expressed deep appreciation to his supporters, particularly members of the Obidient Movement, for their resilience and loyalty despite facing criticism, insults, and challenges in their push for political change in Nigeria.
His remarks come months after his defection from the Labour Party in December 2025, following prolonged internal crises within the party. His move to the ADC has since attracted significant attention, especially among political stakeholders in the South-East.
However, Obi’s entrance into the party has also sparked fresh debates and internal contestations, with notable political figures, including Atiku Abubakar, reportedly linked to rival interests within the party. The situation has further fueled discussions around zoning and the strategic direction of the ADC ahead of the 2027 elections.
As the political landscape begins to take shape, Obi’s declaration signals the start of what could become a highly competitive race within the ADC for its presidential ticket.
