Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has been installed as Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua, a prominent Yoruba chieftaincy title, by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, during a ceremony marking his 10th coronation anniversary.

The installation took place on Sunday at the Palace Square in Ile-Ife, where traditional rulers, political figures and cultural groups gathered to honour the First Lady.

In a congratulatory statement on Monday, the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, praised Tinubu as a “woman of substance” known for resilience, integrity and leadership. He said the title reflects her contributions to society and her commitment to service.

According to the Alaafin, Tinubu exemplifies “inner strength, confidence, empathy and intelligence,” adding that she serves as a role model through her actions, advocacy and support for social causes.

He described her as “a dependable figure who brings people together, leads by example, and supports the less fortunate,” noting that she avoids ostentation and prioritises meaningful impact over status.

The chieftaincy title positions the First Lady as one of the highest-ranking female figures in Yoruba traditional leadership circles.
