One dead, 3 arrested as rival cult groups clash in Awka
At least one person has been shot dead as rival cult groups clashed in Awka on Saturday morning.
There were sporadic shootings around the Zik Avenue in Awka, Anambra State, as rival transport associations clashed.
No reason had yet been ascertained as to what led to the clash, but it was gathered that the rival cult groups clashed in the early hours of Saturday.
The residents around the area were said to have run for safety during the shooting spree, while the cult members shot at each other.
Confirming the incident, the state police command spokesman, Tochukwu Ikenga, said the police patrol team had intensified activity within the area and the entire Awka. He said, “Following the sound of gunshots at Zik Avenue, Awka, police patrol has been intensified in Awka.
Preliminary information revealed that the cause of the shooting is as a result of cult-related incident/clash.
“The situation is closely monitored and further development shall be communicated.”
