The Speaker of the Ndigbo Youth Parliament (NYP), Rt. Hon. Rikki Nwajiofor, has called on South-East governors to place the security of lives and property and the development of human capital above partisan politics and personal interests.

In a statement issued to mark this year’s Igbo Day celebration, Nwajiofor described the occasion as a reminder of the shared heritage, resilience, and industrious spirit of Ndigbo, while urging leaders to embrace transformational governance.

He appealed to the Federal Government to adopt a political solution in the case of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader Nnamdi Kanu, citing reports of Kanu’s deteriorating health. According to him, Kanu’s release through dialogue and reconciliation would ease tensions in the South-East and foster peace across Nigeria.

“The continued incarceration of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu remains a source of tension. His release will not only douse agitations but also go a long way in healing wounds and strengthening unity,” Nwajiofor said.

The NYP Speaker also urged Igbo youths to reject secessionist tendencies and embrace unity, stressing that secession would divide, while unity would empower the region.

“Our governors must prioritize human capital development by investing in education, skills, technology, and entrepreneurship. For a people known for ingenuity, the greatest gift to our youth is the opportunity to innovate and thrive,” he added.

The Igbo Day celebration was marked across the South-East and among the diaspora, with calls for peace, progress, and renewed leadership in Ala Igbo.
