Equatorial Guinea: Baltasar Engonga fired Over Sex Tape Scandal
Baltasar Engonga has been fired as the Director General of Equatorial Guinea’s National Financial Investigation Agency.
Baltasar Engonga’s dismissal as Director General of Equatorial Guinea’s National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF) was ordered by President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo after explicit videos surfaced online, showcasing Engonga’s intimate encounters with several high-profile women, including relatives and wives of prominent figures.
These videos, reportedly over 400 in number, were leaked on social media, sparking widespread outrage and condemnation.
Engonga has been replaced by Zenón Obiang Obiang Avomo.
The scandal has prompted the First Lady, Constancia Mangue Obiang, to call for decisive governmental action to protect the dignity of Equatoguinean women.
The Senate has passed a law to regulate the behaviour of public officials and the use of social media.
Cameras have been installed in government offices, and all officials involved in the scandal have been suspended.
