BREAKING: Plateau Governor Caleb Mutfwang Defects to APC

Jos – Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The governor confirmed his defection on Friday after completing his registration and receiving his APC membership card at the Government House, Rayfield, Jos.

In an official press statement personally signed by him, Mutfwang said the decision followed prayers, extensive consultations, and careful consideration of the overall interest of Plateau State.

“Today, January 2, 2026, I formally joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) after completing my registration and receiving my membership card at the Government House, Rayfield. I am grateful to God for His guidance, as this decision followed prayers, wide consultations, and careful consideration of the best interests of Plateau State,” the governor said.

Mutfwang stated that his move to the ruling party was driven by a desire to deepen peace, unity, and development in the state, stressing that the decision was neither personal nor borne out of political hostility.

“I have embraced the APC as a platform to deepen peace, unity, and development across our dear state. This decision is not borne out of personal ambition, nor does it signify enmity with anyone. I remain deeply appreciative of my former associates and all those who supported my emergence as Governor.”

Reflecting on the 2023 general elections, which he described as one of the most challenging in Plateau State’s political history, Mutfwang attributed his victory to divine intervention and called for unity ahead of 2027.

“The 2023 elections were among the most challenging in our history, and my victory was possible only by the grace of God. As we look ahead to 2027, I call on all political actors to embrace peace and unity, and I am confident that Plateau State will stand firmly with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

The governor emphasized that his long-term vision is to unite Plateau State beyond partisan affiliations, urging residents to move past years of division and political bitterness.

“My vision remains to unite Plateau State beyond partisan lines. We have been divided for too long; the time has come to replace bitterness with peace, hatred with love, and division with unity. Plateau must move forward as one people.”

Mutfwang assured party leaders, stakeholders, and citizens of his commitment to accelerated development and good governance under the APC platform.

“I will work closely with party leaders, stakeholders, and the people of Plateau State to accelerate development and deliver the dividends of democracy. We have come to add value, not subtract; to build, not divide.”

The defection marks a major political shift in Plateau State and is expected to significantly alter the state’s political dynamics ahead of the 2027 general elections.
