Chelsea Beat Crystal Palace 3-1 to Move Into Premier League Top Four
Chelsea climbed into the Premier League top four after a convincing 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Sunday afternoon.
Goals from Estevao Willian, Joao Pedro and Enzo Fernandez sealed an impressive away win for the Blues, extending their unbeaten league run against Palace to 17 matches and giving new head coach Liam Rosenior back-to-back league victories in charge.
Estevao Opens the Scoring
The match started at a high tempo, with chances at both ends in the opening stages. Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta was denied early on by an excellent save from Robert Sanchez, before Chelsea responded through Enzo Fernandez, who fired over from close range.
The breakthrough arrived in the 34th minute, when Palace defender Jaydee Canvot misplayed a pass, allowing Estevao Willian to burst clear from just inside Chelsea’s half. Showing blistering pace and composure, the Brazilian raced past Tyrick Mitchell and smashed a powerful finish beyond Dean Henderson.
Chelsea took that 1-0 advantage into half-time and returned with renewed energy.
Joao Pedro and Enzo Seal the Win
Chelsea doubled their lead just four minutes into the second half. Trevoh Chalobah won possession and initiated a slick move that ended with Joao Pedro cutting inside and firing a fierce left-footed shot under Henderson to make it 2-0.
The visitors continued to dominate and were rewarded again in the 64th minute. A Reece James cross caused confusion in the Palace box, and Joao Pedro’s effort struck Canvot’s hand. Following a VAR review, a penalty was awarded, and Enzo Fernandez calmly converted from the spot to put Chelsea three goals ahead.
Palace’s afternoon worsened when Adam Wharton received a second yellow card for a late challenge on Moises Caicedo, leaving the hosts with ten men.
Late Consolation for Palace
Crystal Palace managed a late consolation in the 88th minute, as Chris Richards headed home after Sanchez initially saved from Jefferson Lerma. However, the goal did little to change the outcome, with Chelsea comfortably seeing out the match.
What the Result Means
The win moves Chelsea up to fourth place in the Premier League table, ahead of Manchester United, who would need a victory at Arsenal to overtake them later in the day.
Chelsea now turn their attention to European action, facing Napoli away on Wednesday night in the Champions League as they chase a top-eight finish.
