BREAKING: President Tinubu Re-Elected As ECOWAS Chairman

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been re-elected as the Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) for another term.

The announcement was made during the 65th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Sunday.

President Tinubu, who first assumed the leadership of ECOWAS in May 2023, urged member states to commit financially to the fight against terrorism in the region.

“The success of our plan to combat terrorism requires not only strong political will but also substantial financial resources,” he emphasized.

The Nigerian leader stressed the need for member states to provide additional resources to stabilize the region, citing the importance of meeting the expectations and recommendations set forth by the ministers of defense and finance.

“We must therefore ensure that we meet the expectations and recommendations set forth by our ministers of defence and finance in order to counter the insecurity and stabilise our region. Member states must make extra commitments to providing resources for stabilising the region.”

This re-election solidifies President Tinubu’s position as a key leader in the regional bloc, as ECOWAS continues to address the pressing issues of terrorism and insecurity in the West African region.
