His team shared out boiled eggs to the pupils and teachers and they sang songs about egg and its great value.
In an interview with journalist present at the event Mr Odoh explained the significance of the program,
“The World Egg Day, is celebrated every 2nd Friday in October all around the world primarily to help eradicate the problem of protein deficiency in the world, by encouraging more people to eat egg we are directly fighting that war of malnutrition.
The Poultry Association of Nigeria Enugu chapter always do their bit in being part of the celebration.
The World Egg Day program in Enugu is a week-long program where we map out activities to create awareness about the value and importance of protein found in egg.
We started this year’s activity with Thanksgiving, some radio programmes, where we continue to sensitize people about the need to continue to consume eggs.
Egg is for everyone children, adults, pregnant women, and the elderly.
Egg is a wholesome food and has about 90% protein. Also, egg is the cheapest source of protein that you can get in Nigeria.
A single egg will cover so many other carbohydrates that you put in your body. An egg a day will keep you far away from the doctors” he emphasized.
Despite the major challenges the Poultry industry in Nigeria has faced from Cash Crunch where farmers lost millions of naira to the uniaxiality of maize for feed for the birds and currently the fuel subsidy removal which has hike up the prices of raw materials and cost of production, we still had to go through with the celebration as we realize its great importance. The poultry industry in Nigeria has seen very tough times this year.
Speaking with Dr. Chekwube Eze the Secretary of Poultry Association of Nigeria, Enugu Chapter he had this to say, “I’m glad that PAN Enugu State branch was able to do this, we know the situation of economic hardship in Nigeria now but we pulled through with the celebration and the distribution of eggs, the pupils were happy. I also hope that we’ll be able to do more continuously”.
Njideka Joan Nliam the Treasurer of ENUPAN thanked God for a successful outing and Amechi Albert Ezeonyia the Financial Secretary was also part of the team at the event.
