The Ghana Education Service (GES) has interdicted a teacher at Bole Senior High School (SHS) in the Savannah Region following the circulation of a viral video allegedly showing inappropriate conduct involving a teacher and a student.

The decision was announced after the video surfaced on social media and sparked widespread public concern, with many calling for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. According to GES, the teacher has been removed from active duty pending the outcome of ongoing investigations.

In a statement issued on June 16, the Service said it had become aware of the footage and immediately commenced inquiries into the matter. The agency stressed that the interdiction was in line with its regulations and was necessary to ensure a fair and transparent investigation process.

Reports accompanying the viral video alleged that the incident involved a teacher and a final-year student and may have occurred on school premises. However, GES said investigations are still ongoing and cautioned against treating unverified claims circulating online as established facts.

The Service reiterated its zero-tolerance policy toward inappropriate relationships between teachers and students, emphasizing that educators are expected to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and ethical conduct. It added that disciplinary and legal action would be taken against any individual found culpable following the investigations.

The incident has generated intense public debate across Ghana, with parents, education stakeholders and community members expressing concern about student welfare, teacher accountability and the need for stronger safeguarding measures in schools.

GES has assured the public that the welfare and protection of students remain a top priority and pledged to provide further updates as investigations progress.
