Tinubu Rewards 200 NYSC Awardees with Jobs, ₦250,000, and Scholarships
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the immediate employment of 200 outstanding National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members into the federal civil service. Each honouree will also receive a ₦250,000 cash award and a postgraduate scholarship up to PhD level in any Nigerian university.
The announcement was made during the 2020–2023 NYSC President’s Honours Award ceremony held in Abuja, where the President, represented by Minister of State for Labour and Employment Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to youth development and national unity.
Ten physically challenged ex-corps members were also granted automatic employment for their service and resilience despite injuries sustained in the line of duty.
“The Head of the Civil Service and the Federal Civil Service Commission have been directed to immediately commence the employment process,” Tinubu said, adding that the awards were a recognition of patriotism, discipline, and sacrifice.
Also speaking at the event, Minister of Youth Development Ayodele Olawande praised the administration’s youth-focused policies, including the recent increase in corps members’ monthly allowance from ₦33,000 to ₦77,000.
NYSC DG, Brig. Gen. Olakunle Akinyemi Nafiu, hailed the honourees as “heroes of the republic,” noting that over 6,000 medical personnel, including 2,319 doctors, had reached more than four million rural Nigerians through the Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD) in 2025 alone.
He also emphasized the scheme’s renewed focus on digital skills, entrepreneurship, and community development, and expressed optimism that the NYSC Trust Fund Bill would soon become law.
Among the celebrated corps members were:
- Nunaya Polycarp Nunaya (Adamawa – served in Kwara)
- Okpogbo Alvin Chinedu (Imo – served in Cross River)
- Dr. Ugwa Obinna Mark (Abia – served in Cross River)
- Rabiu Quadri Mayokun (Osun – served in Rivers)
- Akase Pati Ence Nguwasen (Benue – served in Gombe)
- Igwe Anne Chikaodi (Enugu – served in Sokoto)
Awardee Ezieme Francis Uba expressed gratitude, saying, “Nothing gives greater joy than seeing your efforts rewarded. This honour motivates me to serve even more.”
The NYSC, established in 1973, continues to stand as a pillar of national integration, and this latest gesture by President Tinubu signals a renewed commitment to empowering Nigeria’s youth for national transformation.
