Award-winning Nigerian singer and global music sensation Tems has launched a powerful new platform aimed at empowering women across Africa’s music industry.

Called The Leading Vibe Initiative, the project is designed to support not just singers, but also songwriters, producers, engineers, and other creatives often overlooked in the male-dominated music space.

Tems announced the initiative on her social media pages, stating:

“Today, I’m so proud to launch The Leading Vibe. From my self-taught journey with no roadmap, I created this initiative to support African women in music — those breaking barriers, building boldly, and leading the next wave.”

Born from Experience

Tems’ journey into music is as inspiring as her sound — a self-taught artist who carved her path without connections or formal training. Now, she’s using her platform to help the next generation of African women find their voices and thrive in the industry.

“Despite the growth of the Nigerian music industry, there’s still a lack of opportunities for women behind the scenes — as writers, engineers, and producers,” she said. “The Leading Vibe is for the dreamers, the bold ones, the women who want to be heard.”

First Stop: Lagos

The Leading Vibe Initiative kicks off with its first immersive programme in Lagos on August 8–9, 2025. The two-day event is open to Nigerian women aged 18 to 35 and will include:

Hands-on workshops

Masterclasses from industry experts

Panel discussions

Access to professional tools and mentorship

Participants will gain both practical skills and valuable connections in a supportive, empowering environment created by one of Africa’s most respected artists.

A Vision for the Continent

While the first event will take place in Tems’ hometown of Lagos, the goal is much bigger. The Leading Vibe Initiative plans to expand across Africa, bringing opportunities and resources to women in music from different regions and cultures.
