Suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara paid a courtesy visit to President Bola Tinubu at his private residence in Lagos on Tuesday, June 3, 2025.
The meeting comes months after President Tinubu suspended Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly over a protracted political crisis in the state.
According to Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Media and Information Strategy to the President, the visit was confirmed through photos shared on his X handle.
The photos showed Fubara and Tinubu in a closed-door meeting, with details of the discussion yet to be disclosed.
The political crisis in Rivers State has been ongoing, stemming from a power tussle between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. The crisis escalated to the Rivers House of Assembly, dividing lawmakers into pro-Wike and pro-Fubara camps.
In March, President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, citing prolonged political instability, and appointed retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ette Ibas as sole administrator. Fubara’s suspension has sparked debates across Nigeria, with many questioning the President’s decision.
Despite the suspension, Fubara has expressed interest in peace and a desire to settle with Wike, whom he refers to as his boss. The visit to President Tinubu may be a step towards resolving the crisis, but details of the meeting remain scarce.
