Nigeria’s national women’s football team, the Super Falcons, have been eliminated from the 2024 Paris Olympics after a 3-1 loss to Japan in their final Group C match.
The team’s early exit comes after a disappointing group stage campaign, where they lost all three matches and finished bottom of the group with zero points.
Despite their preparations in Sevilla, Spain, the Super Falcons struggled against tough opponents, losing 1-0 to Brazil and Spain, and 3-1 to Japan.
This marks a disappointing end to their Olympic campaign, with their best performance still being their sixth-place finish in Athens 20 years ago.
The Nigerian Football Federation has expressed disappointment and promised to regroup and rebuild for future tournaments.
