The crisis in Rivers State began in October 2023, with a fire incident at the House of Assembly Complex, followed by an attempt to impeach Fubara. The situation escalated with the defection of 27 Assembly members from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Despite the challenges, Fubara has remained committed to ensuring that Rivers State is not controlled by a single individual.

Lere Olayinka, Wike’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications, expressed disappointment in Odili’s remarks, saying he has reduced himself to a ridiculous level of partisanship.
According to Olayinka, Odili should be acting like an elder statesman, not engaging in partisan commentary. He also hinted that Wike will respond to Odili’s statements soon.
