The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said that only delegates from congresses they monitored would be recognized.
In a letter signed by Rose Oriaran-Anthony, INEC’s secretary, the commission stated that it based its decision on section 84 (1) of the electoral act 2022 which says “A political party seeking to nominate candidates for elections under this act shall hold primaries for aspirants to all elective positions which shall be monitored by the commission.”
The letter obtained by TheCable read in part;
“In line with this provision the commission shall, in monitoring primaries, only recognize delegates that emerge from congresses duly monitored by the commission.”
