Nigerian music sensation Davido has spoken out about his past association with Ramon Abbas, also known as Hushpuppi, a convicted internet fraudster.
In a recent podcast appearance, Davido revealed that although they were friends, he was unaware of Hushpuppi’s illicit activities.
“I just see him around, I never really knew what he was doing,” Davido said. “But he lived a good life.”
Despite Hushpuppi’s conviction in the US, Davido expressed sympathy for his friend, citing Nigeria’s harsh economic realities as a possible factor that drives individuals towards illegal paths. Hushpuppi was sentenced to over 11 years in prison in 2022 for conspiring to commit fraud involving millions of dollars.
He was also ordered to pay $1,732,841 in restitution to two victims of the scam. Davido’s comments have sparked conversation about the complexities of relationships and the impact of economic circumstances on individual choices.
