The United Abia Artists and Patriots Forum (UAAP) has issued a stern warning to Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, urging him to desist from making undemocratic statements and prioritize the welfare of the people over APC interests.

In a statement released yesterday, Ambassador Dr. Osita Offor Ikenga Gburugburu, President of UAAP, expressed concern over Kalu’s recent utterances, which they believe threaten the fabric of Nigeria’s democracy. “We reject the notion that every governor must come from the APC simply because the party holds power at the center. This idea contradicts democratic principles and the rule of law,” the statement read.

UAAP commended Governor Alex Otti of Abia State for his progress and urged Kalu to avoid distracting the government with premature talks of the 2027 election. “There is no vacancy in Abia Lion House in 2027. It is too early for such politicking, and the governor should focus on delivering dividends of democracy to the people,” the statement emphasized.

Furthermore, UAAP expressed concerns about the Southeast Development Commission Bill signed into law by President Tinubu, suspecting it may be an APC ploy to woo the region. They demanded clarity on the implementation and funding mechanism to ensure it benefits the Southeast region and not just APC allies.

The group concluded by reiterating their support for Governor Alex Otti and his industrialization efforts in Abia State, urging all well-meaning citizens to prioritize the state’s progress over political interests.

This development comes as tensions rise in the political landscape of Abia State, with many calling for focus on governance and development rather than premature politicking.
