Edo State: Governor Okpebholo Reinstates Oba of Benin’s Full Authority
The Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has reinstated the full authority of the Oba of Benin, dismantling the newly established traditional councils introduced by his predecessor, Godwin Obaseki, in the Edo South senatorial district.
This decision effectively restores the Oba’s traditional powers and influence, which had been diminished by the creation of the new councils. The governor has also reinstated the financial entitlements legally due to the Benin Traditional Council (BTC) and directed that the previous situation prior to the establishment of the now-dissolved councils be upheld.
The development is seen as a significant reversal of the previous administration’s policies, which had created tension between the government and the traditional institution. The move is expected to improve relations between the two entities and promote stability in the region.
