Some protesters and supporters of former Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State have asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to accord him the same respect given to the immediate past Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal.

They made their demands in front of the Tunde Idiagbon House, Abuja, where Fayose had gone to honour the EFCC invitation.

The protesters, led by Deji Adeyanju, the Convener of Concerned Nigerians, said Babachir was arrested and treated like a Very Important Person and released on self recognisance.

Adeyanju said, “Before they accuse us of supporting corruption, let us state clearly that we are here to demand that the EFCC respect the rights of Fayose. He must be treated like Babachir Lawal who was only questioned and allowed to go.

“Babachir, despite allegations of stealing money meant for the victims of Boko Haram, was released on self recognisance.”

The protesters threatened to return on Wednesday if Fayose is detained for more than 24 hours.
