A mass shooting occurred at the BORG Dreierschtzengasse high school in Graz, Austria, resulting in the deaths of 10 people.
The shooter, believed to be a student, also died by suicide during the attack. The incident happened on Tuesday morning, with police responding to reports of multiple gunshots at the school.
According to authorities, nine students and one faculty member were killed in the incident. At least 10 others were injured and taken to a nearby hospital.
The police confirmed that the school has been evacuated and both students and staff have been moved to a secure location. The area has been declared secure, with no further danger reported.
The identity of the shooter is not yet known, but police believe the assailant acted alone. Austrian Interior Minister Gerhard Karner is en route to Graz.
European Union spokesperson Paula Pinho offered condolences to the families of the victims and the city of Graz.
Graz Mayor Elke Kahr described the events as a “terrible tragedy.” The incident has sparked an investigation, with authorities working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
