We will emerge stronger – Fubara to Rivers people

Suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has urged residents to remain steadfast and trust in God’s plan amid the ongoing political crisis. He emphasized that the situation will ultimately make them stronger, not weaker. Fubara made these remarks while hosting Muslim leaders from 20 Islamic groups as part of the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

Fubara’s commitment to justice and equality remains unwavering, and he has assured Muslims that their pending requests will be addressed once the political situation stabilizes. He has also warned against those inciting violence, urging his supporters and Rivers people to reject elements seeking to destabilize the state.

The governor’s stance has garnered support from Muslim leaders, including Alhaji Nasir Awhelebe Uhor, who praised Fubara’s commitment to inclusive governance. Uhor urged President Bola Tinubu to reassess the emergency rule in Rivers State and reinstate Fubara’s full authority, citing the governor’s effective leadership despite the crisis.

Meanwhile Edison Ehie, Chief of Staff to suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has made some serious allegations. He claims that he was offered a whopping N5 billion bribe to facilitate Fubara’s impeachment back in October 2023, while he was serving as the majority leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly. Ehie says he has evidence of the bribe offer stored on his phone and has even printed and distributed it to protect himself.

But that’s not all – Ehie has also denied allegations made by former Head of Service George Nwaeke, who accused him of orchestrating the bombing of the Rivers State Assembly complex on Fubara’s orders. Ehie calls these claims “false and politically motivated” and has even instructed his lawyers to file a lawsuit against Nwaeke for criminal libel.

It’s worth noting that Rivers State has been embroiled in political turmoil following Fubara’s fallout with his predecessor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State on March 18, leading to the suspension of both the governor and his deputy.
