BONA NAIJAThe Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has stated that popular social media activist Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), will be released once he meets his bail conditions.
According to EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, VDM’s arrest followed multiple petitions alleging misconduct, and the commission will take the case to court as soon as possible.
The circumstances surrounding VDM’s arrest have sparked controversy, with his lawyer claiming he was ambushed and arrested inside Guaranty Trust Bank premises. However, GTBank has denied involvement, releasing CCTV footage and calling for a thorough investigation.
Protesters have gathered at GTBank’s Abuja headquarters demanding VDM’s unconditional release. The case has triggered a strong online backlash, with many accusing the EFCC of cracking down on dissent.
