Tudun Wada Water Project; Our Story – Community Through The Lens Initiative

Community Through the Lens Initiative (CTLI) was founded to tell stories that no one has heard before through the use of photography, and use camera to advocate for better welfare, and inclusive society.

In 2019, CTLI visited Tudun Wada, a small village located in Abaji Area Council, on one of its photography outreaches. One of the obvious realities of this small community is the lack of access to clean water.

It will be quite misleading to assume that being located in the capital city of Nigeria will give it access to basic amenities such as water. But the reality is far from the expectation.

Like a lot of communities in Nigeria dealing with the harsh realities of lack of clean water, a basic amenity now classified as important to human existence and human right, Tudun Wada has not had access to clean water for over six years.

The only source of water in this small village is a muddy water hole that serves the whole community.

Just imagine a watering hole that provides drinking, washing and bathing water for a community fifty years ago, then imagine the reality of Tudun Wada.

In September 2015, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development that includes 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Not surprising, Goal 6 is Clean Water and Sanitation. Advocacy spans across various spectra without any limiting or ironclad definition of what it should or should not contain.

Advocacy has been at the heart of various humanitarian ventures, including telling stories of places no one has heard about, or places no one imagine has limitations such as access to clean water.

CLTI is an advocacy-based group of young people who are not only passionate about impacting their immediate environment but are willing to go the extra mile in actualizing the aim of their advocacy.

Our world today has never been so connected as it is today. This connection spas across countries, economic ties, religion, sports and profession. We are connected by the most important thread of all, our shared humanity.

Today, CLTI is raising fund to provide clean water to the people of Tudun Wada, and they need every one of us to tap into the humanity-thread that connects all of us.

The world indeed is fast becoming a global village, but this will be defeated if one human is left behind. To achieve this dream, this is an opportunity for you to be part of the CLTI Partners that will provide clean water for Tudun Wada.

The Tudun Wada Water Project is our response towards moving beyond the realm of telling stories to actually changing stories.

Our response to taking everyone along, to ensure that no one is left behind and making the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals a reality, after all, it is only ten more years away!

Using photography as a tool of social change and advocacy, CLTI is going a step further. While this may sound like a cliché, it is a priceless quip: a journey of a thousand steps begins with the first step.

Likewise, at CLTI we begin that a journey of a thousand advocacy begins with the first act of striving to bring about a positive change.
