The Peace Corps of Nigeria on Monday marked the United Nation International Day of Peace with an an event in its National headquarters in Abuja.

The National commandant, Ambassador Dickson Akoh in the event commended the federal government’ efforts in keeping peace in Nigeria.

Akoh stressed the urgent need to further explore the ideals of conflict prevention through Peace education and social justice.

He emphasized that conflict, being a natural consequence of human coexistence, underscored the divergence in beliefs, cultures, tribes ,races and religions.

These divergent views, he said, made it imperative for Nigerians to place premium on the “need to better understand our diversities to decipher common grounds to live in harmony regardless of our individual differences.”

The Peace Corps boss said that Peace as a concept remained knowledge-driven and could only manifest when the people have peace within themselves which will boost development in the country.

The event witnessed the presence of dignitaries from both government and traditional institutions in Nigeria.

The highpoint of the event was the decoration of some dignitaries with the Prestigious Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) AMBASSADORS Award, while Dr. Dickson A.O. Akoh was honoured and Inducted into the Fellowship of INSTITUTE OF SECURITY AND FORENSIC STUDIES.
