JUWACI Stands Strong at World Cancer Day Event Themed “Choke Cancer”

On February 2nd, 2024, amidst an outpouring of community support, Julebrama Women and Children Initiative (JUWACI) proudly participated in the commemoration of World Cancer Day, joining hands with Project Pink Blue at the prestigious Trans Corp Hilton, Abuja.


The event, supported by esteemed partners including AIT, Trans Corp Hilton, the Krump, Institute of Human Virology Nigeria, and others, aimed to raise awareness and support for cancer prevention and treatment initiatives.

Alongside the vibrant atmosphere, we extend our deepest gratitude to our Executive Director, Mrs. Jennifer Hembafan Alih, for entrusting us with the opportunity to represent JUWACI at this significant event. Her unwavering support and visionary leadership continue to inspire us in our mission to make a positive impact in our communities.

Highlights of the Program:

  • Walk and Rally: Participants embarked on a spirited walk, rallying together to raise awareness for cancer prevention.
  • Educational Talks: Engaging speeches highlighted the significance of vaccination, early detection, and prevention strategies.
  • Cancer Survivor Testimony: A survivor’s narrative inspired hope and resilience, illustrating the triumph over adversity.
  • Comprehensive Screenings: Attendees benefited from health screenings, promoting proactive healthcare practices.
  • HPV Vaccination: The provision of HPV vaccines underscored the commitment to preventive healthcare measures.
  • Keynote Addresses: Dignitaries and stakeholders delivered empowering messages, fostering a sense of unity and purpose in the fight against cancer.
  1. Walk and Rally: The event commenced with a series of activities aimed at raising awareness and advocating for cancer prevention. Participants engaged in a walk, race, cycling, ride, and marathon, symbolizing the collective commitment to fighting cancer.
    The walk kicked off from the gates of Transcorp Hilton at 8:15 a.m. lasting until 9:50 a.m., witnessing a massive turnout from attendees. The overwhelming response demonstrated the community’s strong support and dedication to the cause of cancer awareness and prevention.
  2. Educational Talks: Approximately 30 minutes into the walk, a brief interlude allowed for a poignant address by the project organizer. The Director General of the Primary Healthcare Development Agency Dr. Muyi Aina delivered a compelling speech, emphasizing the importance of vaccination to prevent hepatitis and advocating for the HPV vaccine among young girls aged 9 to 14 to prevent cancer.

  3. Acknowledgments were extended to Her Excellency Dr. Zainab Shinkafi Bagudu, a Global Cancer Advocate, the former First Lady of Kebbi State, for her instrumental role in making the HPV vaccine accessible to young girls attending the event.
  4. Cancer Survivor Testimony: A cancer survivor shared a heartfelt testimony on how he survived stage 3 liver cancer, underscoring the resilience and hope amidst the battle against cancer.
  5. Comprehensive Screenings/Vaccination: Upon returning to Transcorp Hilton, the main venue, attendees underwent comprehensive screenings for cancer, blood sugar levels, and other health parameters. Young girls in attendance received the HPV vaccine on-site, furthering the mission of cancer prevention and awareness.
  6. Keynote Addresses: Her Excellency and Dr. Muyi Aina further emphasized the significance of cancer awareness and early detection, empowering attendees with knowledge to safeguard their health. The Executive Director of Trans Corp Hilton also graced the occasion, sharing insights on the collective fight against cancer.

  7. Conclusion: The event’s theme, “Choke Cancer,” resonated throughout the day, encapsulating the collective determination to combat this formidable disease. Today’s event served as a poignant reminder of the importance of unity and action in combating cancer and promoting overall wellness.
