Igbo Day Celebration 2019 Set to hold in Abuja
ABUJA – Modalities have been concluded for the hosting of Igbo Day Celebration 2019 in Abuja. The theme of this year’s celebration is “Nkwalite Ome n’ala Nke Udo Maka Uto Obibi Ndų Na Akųnaųba: Promoting Culture of peace for socio Economic Development “.
The event is Slated to hold on Sunday, 29th September 2019 at Old Parade Ground, Area 10 Garki FCT Abuja .
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, Dr Kachi Iheme chairman planning committe Igbo day celebrations 2019 stated that the objectives of this years celebration are to showcase and promote the opulent IGBO customs and traditions. To build bridges of national unity and develop opportunities for youth to learn and practice Igbo culture as well as to inculcate the spirit of peace, unity and development amongst all Igbo speaking people amongst and to sustain the germane Igbo day cultural history and memerials among others.
Also Speaking the president , Ohaneze Ndi Igbo Abuja Mr Odozi Nwodozi condemned the recent irrational behaviour by some Igbos against the Nigerian Senator, Ekweremadu in far away Germany at an Igbo Summit saying it was abominable act in Igboland for a child to beat his father.
‘Ohaneze Ndigbo condemns in totality the awkward reactions of Igbo brothers who assaulted the Nigerian Senator, Ekweremadu in a foreign land. It is an abomination in Igbo land. However, we have forgiven them and they have also realised their mistakes’.
Nwodozi who also expressed the concerns of Ohaneze Ndigbo regarding the current xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa stated that its disappointing how South Africans have forgotten the history so soon.
“South Africans have forgotten history too soon. I am aware that Nelson Mandela in the heydays of his struggle was quartered in Igboland in the apartment of one Igbo man called ‘The Boy is Good’, he remarked.
Dignitaries from all walks of life are expected to grace the event including Chief John Nnia Nwodo, Chief Arthur Eze, senator Enyinnaya Abaribe and distinguished sons and daughters of Igbo Land.
Igbo Day 2019 is a week long event that will kick of with an inter denominational church service on 22nd September The Grand Cultural Fiesta is slated for Sunday, 29th September 2019 at the Old Parade Ground, Area 10, Garki-Abuja.
