House of Reps finally accepts petition by Tivs in America

The petition by the Mutual Union of Tiv in America (MUTA) has finally been accepted by the House of Representatives.

Mark Gbillah presented the petition on behalf of the group on Tuesday during plenary.

It would be recalled that the petition caused controversy the last time it was presented when the Deputy Speaker, Wase who presided over the session declined the petition.

The action generated backlash from Nigerians on social media. Furthermore, Nigerians in diaspora in a letter to the Speaker threatened to stop inflow of remittance.

While speaking on the petition, Gbajabiamila said the misunderstanding surrounding the petition had been resolved.

“I believe this is the same petition that has been causing a lot of misunderstanding. The misunderstanding came from the issue of signature.

“Having cleared that misunderstanding, please, go ahead and lay your petition to be given proper attention.”

The petition was, therefore, referred to the House committee on public petition
