Enugu state government approves n183 billion for road construction
The Enugu state government has approved a whopping N183 billion for the construction of 161 roads across the state. The project includes 141 urban roads in Enugu metropolis and 20 rural roads in the three senatorial districts.
According to the Secretary to the State Government, Chidiebere Onyia, the approval was made during the state executive council meeting held at the Government House, Enugu.
The project is part of Governor Peter Mbah’s vision to grow the state’s economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion and achieve a zero per cent poverty headcount index.

The road construction project aims to improve the quality of life in rural communities, de-risk investments in agriculture, and enhance the movement of produce from farmlands to markets.
The Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Gerald Otiji, provided a breakdown of the roads, which include the dualization of major highways and construction of new roads, such as:
- Abakpa Nike-Opi-Nsukka Road
- Penocks Junction-Nike Lake Road
- Nomeh-Mburubu-Nara Road
- Umabi-Ehuhe Achi Road
- Iheaka-Ibagwa Road
- Amagunze-Ihuokpara-Ugbawka Road
The government has ensured that all zones are covered in the road construction project, which is expected to boost economic growth and development in the state.
This approval brings the total number of smart green schools in the state to 260, with 133 new schools added to the ongoing 127 projects.
The Enugu state government’s commitment to infrastructure development is expected to make the state a premier destination for business, investment, tourism, and living.
