…we are not land grabbers, but legitimate land owners

Land owners around the abandoned Enugu State International Conference Centre (ICC) have cried out over a publication that tagged legitimate land owners around the area as “LAND GRABBERS”.

The land owners stated that it is unfair to tag them land grabbers when they legitimately acquired the land they occupy.

“The cardinal rule of Natural Justice is fair hearing. The publication did not hear from the land owners before this malicious and vexatious sponsored media release.”

“We are not land grabbers, but legitimate land owners by virtue of letters of allocation and duly executed Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) by the Government of Enugu State issued in 2014 in our favour.”

“All the occupants duly paid the statutory fees incidental to the Certificate of Occupancy. Those that built have approved building plan or have paid for the building plan approval to the relevant authority.”

Enugu State Government NEVER revoked the land or written to the owners for any reason whatsoever in respect of subject matter. The layout is approved and surveyed by the Surveyor General of Enugu State with survey delineation in terms of boundaries.

There is no encroachment outside the approved boundaries. We are bothering to inform you because of use of despicable and derogatory words like “Land grabbers” “irresponsible” etc.”
The statement concluded.

The land owners also shared some vital documents to buttress their ownership of the said layout.

According to the publication, the current Enugu State state governor, Barr. Peter Mbah, has promised to complete all abandoned projects, including the International Conference Centre (ICC) and the Hotel Presidential inherited by his administration.

The report further stated that some concerned citizens called on the state government to give the people a world class ICC by removing illegal structures in the area, saying the land housing the ICC had been encroached upon by land grabbers.

As at the time of filing this report, the government is yet to make statement concerning the issues of land allocation around the Enugu International Conference Centre.
