EFCC Probes Mele Kyari, 14 Others Over Alleged $2.9bn Refinery Funds Mismanagement

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has launched an investigation into the alleged misuse of funds and abuse of office by several former top officials of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd).

Among those being probed are former Group Chief Executive Officer Mele Kyari and Abubakar Yar’Adua, over claims of misappropriating approximately $2.96 billion allocated for the refurbishment of the Port Harcourt, Warri, and Kaduna refineries.

The EFCC revealed this in a letter dated April 28, addressed to the Group Managing Director at the NNPC headquarters in Abuja.

The anti-corruption body is specifically scrutinizing the allocation of $1.56 billion for the Port Harcourt refinery, $740 million for the Kaduna refinery, and $657 million for the Warri refinery.

The individuals under investigation include:

  10. Efiok Michael Akpan
  11. Babatunde Bakare
  12. Jimoh Olasunkanmi
  13. Bello Kankaya
  14. Desmond Inyama
