For the second consecutive year, Covenant University has emerged as Nigeria’s overall best university, according to the latest rankings released by Times Higher Education (THE).
The 2025 World University Rankings, which evaluated 2,000 institutions from 115 countries and territories, placed Covenant University at the top of the Nigerian list.
Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, secured the second position, while Landmark University and University of Ibadan ranked third and fourth, respectively.
Globally, the University of Oxford maintained its position as the world’s best university for the ninth consecutive year. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) climbed to second place, pushing Stanford University to sixth.
The rankings were determined by 18 performance indicators across five key areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry, and international outlook.
